Our displays feature many artefacts recovered from several notable local wrecks including the Anne, an English warship from 1690, the Amsterdam, a Dutch East Indiaman from 1749, the Thomas Lawrence, a sailing brig from 1862 and the S S Storaa torpedoed in 1943. We also feature the Primrose. Under restoration, she is the last of the Rye sailing barges, and is on the national Historic Ships register.

The SCHC is a museum that tells an incredible maritime story of some of the ships that passed by Hastings centuries ago, and of the changing coastline that has preserved them. It is a story of shipwrecks, treasure, wreckers, dinosaurs and global warming. And we aim to help visitors understand more about their maritime heritage and, hopefully, encourage them to go from the Centre and explore this unique local coastal history for themselves.
