Bexhill Museum is housed in an Edwardian park pavilion.   NEW technology and social history galleries opened in 2009 after a £2m extension and refurbishment have given Bexhill Museum a new dimension.
Bexhill - Bexelei originally - pre-dates the Norman Conquest.  The community was founded in AD772.  The museum is already preparing for its centenary year in 2014 with a dynamic new Forward Plan.  Original features including local archaeology and natural history are retained in the Sargent Gallery. The new Technology gallery highlights the Edwardian resort's motoring heritage, with a reproduction of the Serpollet steam car which won the 1902 Bexhill Motor Trials, Britain's first international motorsport event.  The steamer is complemented by a Bexhill-built 1957 Mk III Elva sports/racer and the electric car with which local schoolchildren took a class world land speed record.  The social History gallery features an extensive costume collection.
The museum has an interactive Access Centre for research.
