The Burgess Hill Local History Society was founded in 1979 by a few residents who felt that with the rapid growth of the town, the disappearance of so many landmarks and the number of changes that had taken place, it was essential to try and capture the remnants of the town's history. At the same time, they also hoped to engage the interest of new residents and foster a sense of pride in the town. The society has collected a sizeable array of artefacts including some magnificent terracotta pieces for which Burgess Hill was famed. In addition there is a large photograph/slide collection and a substantial archive of documents, books and maps.
